Earlier today, Brian Moran and the Virginia Democratic leadership met at the State Capitol to kick off their “Change the Assembly” tour.

“Whether it was opposing the largest investment in public education or trying to fund transportation with $1000 speeding tickets, the people of Virginia are tired of the Republicans governing through rigid ideology and gimmicks.” House Democratic Caucus Chairman Brian Moran said. “Last year we remodeled the State Capitol, this year we need to change the people that serve on the inside.”

SEPTEMBER 20TH, 2007

House Democrats on Wednesday stood up for Veterans with the launch of the new ‘Veterans Bill of Rights.’ The bill will provide quality medical and counseling care, protect Veterans against financial hardship from service, ensure access to education opportunities, protect military families financially while serving overseas, ensure they received high quality healthcare, and provide additional benefits for families of fallen soldiers.

“In a time of war, when the federal government has all too often failed to provide adequate services for our veterans, Virginia must step up to this moral obligation to care for those who put themselves in harms way to defend us,” House Democratic Caucus Chairman Brian Moran said.

Statement on Mark Warner Announcement

SEPTEMBER 13TH, 2007

Responsible leadership for Virginia’s future

House Democratic Caucus Chairman Brian J. Moran made the following statement about former Governor Mark R. Warner’s decision to run for the United States Senate in 2008.

“Our Commonwealth and our country will be fortunate to have Mark Warner as the next US Senator from Virginia. He has a proven track record ranging from unprecedented investments in education to unqualified success managing Government. His results-oriented approach was vital in governing Virginia and is sorely needed in our nation’s capitol.

I was fortunate to partner with Governor Warner on a number of his major achievements and am confident in his unique understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the 21st century global economy. We need a leader with his type of positive vision for our nation’s future on capitol hill.

At a time of challenge and turmoil in our country, we need the steady hand of responsible leadership that his election will provide. I am very proud to endorse Mark Warner as our next Senator from Virginia and look forward to campaigning for him over the next year.”

Brian J. Moran is Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and a delegate representing Alexandria City and Fairfax County. He is a former Arlington County prosecutor and a member of the Virginia Crime Commission. Governor Warner appointed Brian to serve on the ‘Secure Virginia Panel’ after the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Supporting Stafford County Democrats

SEPTEMBER 9TH, 2007

We had a great time last night with the Stafford County Democrats. Shawn at Raising Kaine provides a quick wrap up.

Stafford County Democrats filled all the space available at the Imperial Garden Resturant in Stafford in a strong show of support for an outstanding group of candidates on the ballot November 6th. House Democratic Caucus Chair, Brian Moran provided the keynote that urged and inspired the audience to help move Stafford candidates forward to victory.

Stafford’s local Democratic candidates are: Trish King running for Clerk of Courts, Harry Crisp running for Supervisor George Washington District, Bob Woodson for Supervisor in Griffis-Widewate District, and Jerry Kirven for Supervisor Rock Hill District.

While he was there to support all of the candidates running in Stafford, Delegate Moran made a special request for help in two House of Delegates races: Carlos Del Toro in the 88th and Clyde Matthews in the 28th.

Thanks to all who made the event such a great success.

Building the momentum

SEPTEMBER 3RD, 2007

Brian recently sat down to talk with Hugh Lessig of The Daily Press about the growing excitement among Virginia Democrats and races to watch in the coming elections.

RICHMOND – When it comes to speculating about future elections in Virginia and who’s running for what, the name of Del. Brian Moran is always in the mix.

The Alexandria Democrat chairs his party’s caucus in the House of Delegates. An attorney, he could easily be a candidate for either attorney general or governor in 2009. He will turn 48 this month.

Personable and still bearing a trace of his New England accent, the native of Massachusetts is a major player in the General Assembly.
