Equality & Civil Rights

Brian Moran believes that for too long political opportunists have tried to pit many in our Commonwealth against each other, and deprive too many Virginians of equal citizenship.

Brian believes that all Virginians deserve basic civil rights, and he has stood for equality throughout his legislative career. He has consistently fought against writing discrimination into Virginia’s Constitution.

Fighting for Equality Brian is the only candidate for governor who voted and campaigned against the Marshall-Newman Amendment in 2006. He does not support efforts to specifically exclude gays and lesbians from basic civil rights by writing discrimination into Virginia’s Constitution. Brian has also supported allowing adult patients to authorize visitation rights for whomever they choose and opposed employment discrimination.

Protecting Voting Rights Brian believes the right to vote is fundamental and has consistently advocated for making it easier for Virginians to vote and participate in our democracy. That’s why Brian assisted in voter protection efforts in Hampton Roads for President Obama’s campaign, and why he has consistently supported the restoration of voting rights for nonviolent offenders once they have paid their debts to society.

Increasing Opportunity for Small, Women & Minority-Owned Businesses Brian’s experience fighting for new jobs and economic opportunity in Virginia has made him a strong advocate for expanding opportunity for small, women and minority-owned businesses, and increasing their opportunity to partner with the Commonwealth.

Brian’s unwavering belief in basic human and constitutional rights has been recognized by leaders across Virginia, including Equality Virginia and the Virginia Partisans.
