This week on 5 Minute Marketing I’m comparing FB messenger and traditional email. Do you know which one I prefer? The answer might surprise you.
I know everyone is always bragging about the size of their email list, but the bottom line is: size doesn’t really matter. What matters is how many people are engaging with the content you are dropping in their inbox.
Let’s be honest, how many of us have our email notifications on silent, or maybe even turned off completely? With so much spam hitting our inbox every day, we are less likely to open another email unless it really grabs our attention.
But, with FB messenger, I can send a message and it will interrupt your day. It will pop up on your phone and you just have to swipe to open it. The result? Way more interaction from customers with FB messenger, which means more clicks on my content, which ultimately means more sales flowing in.
To prove my point, I watched the analytics on an email that I sent out, vs the same analytics on a message I sent through FB. You’ll have to listen to the podcast to get the details, but I’ll give you a hint: FB messenger’s numbers blew email’s out of the water.
If you want more information, make sure to listen to today’s podcast. Even better, you can click here to get instant access to my Facebook Messenger Launch Blueprint. It will give you all the tools you need to use FB messenger effectively.

With, with that kind of list you can build a 10 million dollar business.
Hey, what’s going on everybody? It is Sunday afternoon, uh, March madness basketball is about to start pretty soon so I’m gonna go watch that in a minute. But before I do, um, I actually just recorded a Facebook live about this same exact topic. Some of you might have seen it, some of you might have actually just got the, uh, the ManyChat Facebook message that I just sent out, or the email that I just sent out. Um, and what I wanted to show you guys is comparing the two … Uh, comparing email versus, um, Facebook messanging, or, you know, building your Messenger list, and you know, which one’s more effective, what’s right for certain businesses, and I don’t know if I really have all of those answers. All I can share with you guys is what is working for us, and what my opinions are.
And here is kind of what I … The, the theme that I notice again, and again, and again, you guys have probably heard me say this, especially back, um, late November last year when we released our course about this, called The Messenger Launch Blueprint, is how in love with Facebook Messenger I have been lately. Um, I’m not putting all my eggs in that basket, I’m not not building my email list, email’s still number one for us. Um, it’s the one thing you can control. Your ManyChat with Facebook Messenger list you can’t really control right now, you can’t download it. These are Facebook contacts you’re … you know, you don’t … can’t download their email. If Facebook kicks you off for some reason you’re just kinda screwed. Um, so I always, I recommend building both at once, but heres just a quick snapshot. I just sent out a Facebook message and an email at the same time promoting, um, a big promotion that’s starting on Tuesday for us, which I’ll tell you about here in a minute.
So it’s been now 21 minutes since I sent out that email, uh, and since we sent out the message. And I’m looking at our email, and the email went out to a portion of our list, um, that is 120,261 people. And it’s gotten opened … 1.3% of the people have opened it, so I’m not sure what that is like, what a thousand? Um, maybe f- … 2,000 people have opened it so far. Um, m- maybe a little bit less, whatever that math is. And 51 people have clicked the link that we sent in the email. And again, that’s i- … People like to brag about how big their email list is, how much … you know, what their open rate is. In the end, the only thing that matters, the reason why you build an email list, why I build an email list is how many clicks can you get every time you send an email. I don’t care if you have an email list of 10,000, but every time you send an email, every single person opens and clicks, you get 10,000 clicks and email, y- … With, with that kind of list you can build a 10 million dollar business.
But if you have a million person list, and every time you send an email, you can only send … or you only get two or three hundred clicks every time you send the email, you, you’re, you’re gonna have a hard time building a six figure business. Oh, and that’s just the truth. So I sent this email out, 120,000 people got it, you know 20 some odd minutes ago. 51 clicks so far. Uh, who knows where it’ll end by the end of the day, um, b- … Then I’m looking at my Messenger list that just went out. And it didn’t go out to 120,000 people. We only have 14,000 people over there, ’cause I’ve only been building it since, you know, last summer. Um, I’m looking at it, i- … 2,500 people have opened it already, so that’s a 23% open rate already, compared to 1.3% on email. And if you think about it, it makes sense. You send a message out, somebody’s phone dings. It actually interrupts them.
Now because of that, you gotta be careful. You can’t start sending messages every single day, you better send good content, you better have people that really like you and wanna hear from you. But that’s pretty dang good, I’m getting a 23% open rate, and it’s been 22 minutes, whatever it’s been. Here’s the crazy part. Remember I said the email has 51 clicks so far, the Facebook message from ManyChat, after 20 some odd minu- minutes, has 694 clicks. Ac- … That I can … I promise you … Well I don’t promise you, but that is probably how many clicks this email will get by the end of 24 or 48 hours.
So in the first 20 minutes, our Facebook message is gonna drive more traffic to our site than in … a list to 120,000 people. That’s just flat out crazy. And what’s cool is … Well like one of my favorite parts is it just happens so fast. People get the alert on their phone, at least for now, uh, or if you have the alerts turned on, you can turn them off too, there’s a bunch of stuff, um, that you can do that … which makes it really cool. Uh, and I cover all that inside our course. But y- you can … If you have a timely offer you, you know, you have an offer that starts at midnight, and it’s only available for an hour, you couldn’t do that with email, because number one, email takes a while to send. Sending to 120,000 people takes sometimes an hour to get those emails out. All those em- … All the Facebook messages go out boom, instantanus … instantaneously, and everyone opens it almost immediately. Um, and everyone clicks and takes action almost immediately, so you can run really timely offers.
So, um, anyway. Just some quick stats and quick results on what we’re seeing, you know, as I’m seeing it. And, you know, we’re in the middle of this. Just went live like 20 some odd minutes ago. Um, and if you wanna know more about Messenger, it’s actually what we’re messaging everybody about. Uh, if you open the email, or got the Facebook message, you already know this. Um, but our course, the Facebook, or the Messenger launcher blueprint that went live, uh, we released it on Black Friday, so a couple months ago. Uh, we’re putting it, uh, back on the market, and cutting the price in half of … off the retail. So same price we launched at, um, it’s 50% off the retail value, and it goes live on Tuesday, uh, and it’s gonna be … It’s only gonna be on sale for like 48 or, um, 72 hours. Somewhere in there, I haven’t decided yet. We’ll see how that goes.
But, um, if you guys wanna learn more about that, or wanna be on the early bird list, um, and even if you don’t and you wanna see how we kinda use Messenger to sell products like this, um, this would be a good chance to kinda see what we’re doing. All you gotta do is go to brianmoran.com/messenger. Um Brian, B-R-I-A-N. Moran, M-O-R-A-N. Forward slash messenger, um, and I’ll put you on the early bird list and send you a message when we go live. Um, like I said, whether you’re interested or not, if you wanna see how we use Messenger, that’s the best place to go.
Um, but anyway. The lesson for today is do not … Like don’t ignore new technologies like this, new marketing strategies. Make sure you test everything, even if something sounds crazy, or too good to be true, or hokey, um, try it out. Because I didn’t buy into the Messenger stuff for a while, and then when I first started seeing it, um, just these kinda results. When we send a message and 22 minutes later, uh, it had 694 clicks, and I’m actually gonna hit refresh on this. Let me see if it crosses 700. So it’s now been 27 minutes. Goodness gracious! Okay, so I just hit refresh, it’s been 27 minutes, 750 clicks. So while we were talking, 150 plus clicks happened. Um, while we were talking, on the email side, we went from 51 clicks, I just refreshed, we’re up to 65. So while we were talking, 15 people checked their email, opened the email, clicked the link. And almost 1,000 people … Uh, or almost 500 people opened the Facebook message, and f- … 150 of them clicked.
Like that, it’s just insane. Um, again not putting all my eggs in this basket, but we’re building both lists at the same time, and you should be too. So go to brianmoran.com/messenger if you wanna, um, see this course, or grab it while it’s half off, um, uh, later on this week. Uh, until then, uh, have fun on your Sunday, enjoy the day off. And I’ll talk to you guys soon.
